Scholars have described madhy (pre-seminal fluid) as a thin, sticky, white fluid that is discharged when desire subsides, without actual lust. It necessitates ablution (wudu) and the purification of the body and clothes. As for maniy (seminal fluid), its discharge necessitates a ritual bath (ghusl (definition)), and it has a distinct odor resembling that of palm spathe. If a woman sees maniy, ghusl becomes obligatory for her, whether she is a virgin or not, and whether she sees it in her private parts or it is discharged from her, even if it is a small amount. If a woman wakes up and finds wetness, if she is certain it is maniy, ghusl is obligatory; if it is madhy, wudu is obligatory; and if she is unsure, she can choose between them. Vaginal discharges invalidate wudu but are pure, so there is no obligation to purify the body or clothes from them. Touching the front or back private parts during ghusl is not forbidden. The obligation in ghusl is to ensure water covers the entire body, and rubbing is recommended but not obligatory.
