What is the ruling on someone who felt the semen move but it did not exit, so they performed ghusl out of caution, then the semen exited during or after the ghusl? Do they have to repeat the ghusl?

The answer

Hanbali jurists are of the view that if a man or a woman feels semen moving, (ritual bath) becomes obligatory even if it does not exit, because by doing so, they become in the state of (ritual impurity requiring ghusl). This is because the ruling is linked to desire, and after the sensation of movement, the probability of it not exiting decreases. However, if a person performs ghusl due to the sensation of semen movement, and then it exits after ghusl, or the remaining semen exits without desire after ghusl, ghusl is not obligatory again; rather, they should perform wudu (ablution). This is because ghusl was obligated only once. This opinion aligns with what has been narrated from Ibn Abbas and Ali (may Allah be pleased with them both), and because the semen that exits thereafter is not accompanied by desire, it is akin to an impurity that necessitates wudu, not ghusl.
