When should I perform Ghusl after a wet dream?

It is permissible to delay the ghusl (definition) (ritual bath) from major impurity until the time of prayer, because it is an obligation that is not immediate, as indicated by the hadith (definition) of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him). It is also permissible for a person in a state of major impurity to go about their normal life before performing ghusl. It is permissible for a person in a state of major impurity to sleep before performing ghusl, and it is recommended for him to perform ablution (wudu') before sleeping, as the Prophet (peace be upon him) used to perform ablution if he wanted to sleep while in a state of major impurity. A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) mentioned that the Prophet (peace be upon him) would sometimes perform ghusl before sleeping and at other times would perform ablution and then sleep. The majority of scholars hold that performing ablution for a person in a state of major impurity before sleeping is recommended, not obligatory. The hadith, "Indeed, the angels do not enter a house in which there is a dog or a person in a state of major impurity," is weak. Even if it were authentic, it would refer to someone who neglects ghusl, not someone who delays it intending to perform it.
