Does peritoneal dialysis, with its renewed fluid and permanent abdominal fistula, necessitate wudu’ (ablution)? Is the fluid that exits impure? And does peritoneal dialysis, of both its types (manual and automated nocturnal), break the fast of a fasting person?

The answer

The preponderant opinion is that peritoneal dialysis fluid invalidates ablution (wudu) because it takes the ruling of urine, not blood, due to its containing toxins and waste products from the body.

As for whether it invalidates the fast, the preponderant opinion is that it does invalidate the fast, because it supplies the body with sugars and salts upon which the body nourishes itself.
