Is there a sound, authentic text in the Sunnah that prohibits eating and drinking after waking up from sleep before performing ablution (wudu)?

Prohibiting dipping one's hand into a vessel upon waking up is out of detestation (karaha), not prohibition (tahreem), as a precaution against it having touched an impurity. Some scholars have recommended washing hands before eating, citing a weak hadith (definition).
