What is the ruling on performing ablution with tap water that has changed due to purifying chemical substances, and what is the legal evidence for that?

Water that changes due to a substance not ordinarily accompanying it is generally unsuitable for ablution (wudu) or other forms of purification (taharah (definition)). However, an exception to this is an indistinct change in water by something that purifies it or purifies its container, such as tanning agents and the like. Some scholars have considered this permissible due to necessity. Therefore, if water changes due to chemical substances that purify it, it does not lose its purifying quality.
