Scholars have differed regarding whether a latecomer (masbuq) should recite aloud in the rak'ah he is making up. According to the Malikis, he recites aloud to the extent that it does not disturb others. The Hanbalis hold that he has the choice between reciting aloud or silently. The Shafi'is maintain that he should recite silently.
