Is the Imam's prolongation of the Fajr prayer, by reciting eight pages (four from Surah Ibrahim and four from Surah Al-Kahf), such that the prayer takes 25-30 minutes, considered an arduous and off-putting prolongation for the worshippers, especially given that some have complained and threatened to leave the mosque because of it? And does the ruling on prolongation differ between deliberate recitation and fast recitation, particularly since the Imam believes that the least the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, recited was eight pages?

The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, used to recite from the long chapters of Al-Mufassal during the Fajr prayer, and sometimes from "Surat As-Saffat," or "Surat As-Sajdah" and "Surat Al-Insan" on Fridays. It is sunnah (definition) to prolong the recitation in Fajr prayer. The Imam should recite whatever is easy from the Qur'an without specifying a particular surah (definition), except what has been established by evidence. The Imam must consider the condition of the congregants, so he should not prolong the prayer to the point of repelling them. Indeed, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, would become angry at excessive prolongation. The Imam should vary his recitation and strive to gather people and unite their hearts. There is a difference between deliberate and fast recitation; therefore, the Imam must consider his pace. Whoever recites slowly should recite a shorter portion than someone who recites quickly.
