The Maliki school justified the dislike of intentionally reciting an verse containing a prostration of recitation (sujud (definition) al-tilawah) during a fard (obligatory) prayer with two reasons: confusing the worshippers, and adding to the essence of the prayer with a prostration that is not fundamentally part of it. It was narrated from Ibn al-Qasim that he disliked intentional recitation of such a verse for both the Imam and the individual praying alone, and that Imam Malik held this view. However, Ibn Bashir negated this dislike, arguing that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, consistently recited Surah (definition) (Alif, Lam, Mim, Tanzil) in the Fajr prayer.
