What is the ruling on an Imam who recites quickly during the Tarawih prayer?
Source: FtawySummary from Ftawy's records · added here Sep 2, 2026
If reading the Quran quickly leads to errors in the pronunciation or attributes of letters, or their alteration, the reciter is sinful. However, if the reciter gives each letter its due and its rights while reading quickly, their recitation is correct, but they have gone against what is superior and more complete. It is better to read slowly and deliberately to understand and reflect upon the Quran, as stated in the verse: "And recite the Quran with measured recitation." The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, used to recite with elongation, and measured recitation aids in contemplation and understanding.
