What is the ruling on my leading people in prayer, given that I have memorized half of the Qur’an with tajwid, constantly review it, and there is no one more complete in memorization than me, while there are those who have less memorization and tajwid and cause discord, and given my fear of showing off and the gravity of leading prayer? And what should I do if there is someone who has memorized more than me but has less mastery of tajwid rules, based on the saying of the Prophet, may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him: "The people are led in prayer by the one among them who is most knowledgeable of the Book of Allah"?

It was authentically narrated from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "The people are led in prayer by the one among them who is most knowledgeable of the Book of Allah (i.e., best at reciting it)." The scholars interpreted "most knowledgeable of the Book of Allah" as the one who has memorized the most or recites the best. If you are the most حافظًا (memorizer) and the best at recitation, then you should not delay leading the prayer, due to the harms that may result from your absence. If there is someone among them who has memorized more, then he has more right to lead the prayer, even if he is less precise in tajwid, provided the congregation agrees. We advise you to continue leading the prayer and not abandon good deeds. Abandoning a good deed for the sake of people is hypocrisy (riya'), and performing a good deed for the sake of people is shirk (definition) (associating partners with Allah). You must seek Allah's help and supplicate frequently.
