Is it permissible for a menstruating woman to touch or lift books that contain Quranic verses or Prophetic traditions (Hadith)?

It is forbidden for a menstruating woman to touch the Mushaf (definition) (copy of the Qur'an) without a barrier. However, she is permitted to touch a book that contains verses from the Qur'an or noble Ahadith. She may recite the Qur'an without touching the Mushaf, and it is permissible for her to recite the Qur'an from a book that combines the Qur'an with other texts, such as books of Tafsir (definition) (exegesis). Some scholars have permitted her to recite from the Mushaf with a barrier, but it is preferable to avoid this last option unless she fears forgetting what she has memorized and no other means are available to her.
