The question

What is the validity of the statement that all hadiths reported from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) concerning the virtues of the Quranic surahs are fabricated, except for those reported concerning the virtues of Surat Al-Kahf, Ayatul-Kursi, Yasin, Al-Mulk, and Al-Ikhlas, and is it permissible to restrict matters in this way?

The answer

The Holy Quran is a healing and guidance, and there is established encouragement for its general recitation. Specific surahs and verses have been particularly encouraged, namely:

1. Surat Al-Fatihah: The greatest in the Quran. 2. Surat Al-: Love for it leads to Paradise. 3. Al-Mu'awwidhatayn (Al-Falaq and An-Nas): The Prophet (peace be upon him) used to seek refuge with them and abandoned all others. 4. Surat Al-Baqarah and Al-Imran: They will come on the Day of Resurrection like two clouds or two flocks of birds, pleading on behalf of their reciter. 5. Surat Al-Kahf: Whoever recites it on Friday will be illuminated by a light between the two Fridays. 6. Surat Al-Mulk and As-Sajdah. 7. Surat Ya-Sin.

And among the specific verses:

The last two verses of Surat Al-Baqarah: Whoever recites them at night, they will suffice him. Ayat Al-Kursi: The greatest verse in the Book of Allah.

The general rule is not to specify a surah or a verse unless there is authentic evidence.
