Do we receive the reward for monthly charity given to an orphan family if they disclose it, or must we inform them to conceal it?

Charity given in secret is better than charity given openly, to be safe from showing off (riyaa), based on the Almighty’s saying: "If you disclose your charitable expenditures, they are good; but if you conceal them and give them to the poor, it is better for you." And based on the hadith (definition) of the seven whom Allah will shade with His shade, among them: "a man who gave in charity and concealed it so much so that his left hand does not know what his right hand has spent."

However, open charity may be better in some cases, such as when it involves demonstrating a Sunnah (definition), earning the reward of setting an example, or encouraging people to give in charity.

People knowing about the charity does not nullify its reward, and the giver is not obliged to ask the recipient to keep it secret. But if he does ask him to do so, it is more indicative of secrecy.
