How can a Muslim serve his religion and community without specializing in Islamic scholarly knowledge?

Serving Islam is one of the noblest and most honorable deeds. Ways to serve it include: calling to Allah, teaching beneficial knowledge, building mosques and Quranic memorization centers, reconciling between people, feeding the hungry, sponsoring orphans, striving for the welfare of widows and the poor, and harnessing worldly sciences to serve Muslims in accordance with the rulings of Sharia (definition).
