How can one strengthen faith and self-confidence to confront evil when mingling with people, while fearing God's punishment?

Isolating oneself from people is always difficult. A servant should seek righteous company that helps them in their religious and worldly affairs and keeps them away from those who commit indecencies. Weakness of faith and leniency in religious matters in front of strangers is a sickness resulting from a weak awareness of Allah's constant watchfulness. Therefore, one must cure the soul by pondering over the Qur'an and the Sunnah (definition), reflecting on Allah's promises and warnings, constantly holding oneself accountable, and renewing repentance, while not faltering in da'wah (inviting to Islam), enjoining good, and forbidding evil.
