The question

How do we fast on the Day of Arafah when we live in New Zealand, where there is a ten-hour time difference between it and Makkah Al-Mukarramah, so if the time in Makkah Al-Mukarramah is 12:18 PM, it is 10:18 PM in New Zealand?

The answer

The Day of Arafah is the ninth day of Dhul-Hijjah for each country, and it is determined by fasting on the ninth day of the month after confirming the beginning of Dhul-Hijjah by sighting the crescent moon or completing thirty days of Dhul-Qi'dah. If the legal sighting is not possible in a certain country, then the sighting of the nearest country that shares a portion of the night with them should be adopted. There is no need to compare with Makkah's timing due to its distance.
