Is it permissible to offer an Uḍḥiyah (sacrificial animal) on behalf of the deceased?

Muslims have unanimously agreed on the permissibility of the Udhiyah (definition) (sacrifice), and it is permissible to offer the Udhiyah on behalf of the deceased, because it falls under the general meaning of the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "When a person dies, all his deeds come to an end except for three: a continuous charity (Sadaqah (definition) Jariyah), knowledge from which benefit is gained, or a righteous child who prays for him." And sacrificing the Udhiyah on behalf of the deceased is considered a continuous charity due to the benefit it brings to the one offering the sacrifice, the deceased, and others.
