The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was born in the Shib (mountain pass) of Banu Hashim in Mecca, on the morning of Monday, the ninth of Rabi' al-Awwal, in the first Year of the Elephant. This corresponds to April 20 or 22, 571 CE.
