In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful. What is the ruling on amusement?

Islam considers human nature and its inclination towards play. Scholars have permitted certain types of permissible amusement, including a man playing with his wife, playing with arrows, shooting, and horse riding. They base this on the hadith (definition): "There is no amusement except in three things: a man disciplining his horse, playing with his family, and his shooting with his bow." As for forbidden amusement, it is that which involves disobedience to Allah, such as singing accompanied by musical instruments.
