Is a woman required to clean the garment she uses to prevent the passage of menstrual blood before discarding it?

Scholars have not mentioned the obligation to wash the cloth stained with menstrual blood before discarding it. The apparent actions of the female Companions indicate that they did not wash them, and the Prophet, peace be upon him, approved of that. The evidence for this is the hadith (definition) about the well of Buda'ah, into which "al-hiyad" (which are cloths used for menstrual blood) were thrown. The Prophet, peace be upon him, said: "Indeed, water is pure; nothing makes it impure," which indicates that the cloths were discarded while contaminated with blood. The intent is that these items came to the well with the floodwaters, not that the Companions intentionally threw them in.
