Is it permissible to write the family name on graves?

Writing on a grave, or on the marker placed upon it, is disliked by the majority of scholars, due to the prohibition of the Prophet (peace be upon him) concerning that. As for marking a grave with a stone or a piece of wood, it is permissible according to the majority of scholars and recommended according to the Shafi'is.
