The answer

A Muslim does not defend an injustice that occurred during the Umayyad state, for every state has its virtues and its faults. The Umayyads spread Islam, but they wronged the Family of the Prophet (Ahl al-Bayt). Ahl al- believe in the virtue of Ali ibn Abi Talib and oppose those who were hostile to him, and their books are full of his virtues. The circulating report about the Umayyads killing every newborn named "Ali" has a weak chain of narration, and its content is denounced because it was not mentioned in the books of historians. There were a large number of scholars and narrators named "Ali" during that period who lived and were not persecuted. "Ali ibn Rabah" was born before the establishment of the Umayyad state, and the reason for the diminutive form of his name was due to the widespread animosity towards Ali ibn Abi Talib in the Levant.
