Which is more deserving of charity: completing the construction of an incapacitated father's house, or contributing to the building of the only mosque in the area?

Among the acts of beneficence towards parents is spending on them, especially when they are in need or incapacitated. It becomes obligatory if they are poor, and recommended if they possess wealth. If the questioner's father needs to complete the construction of a residence, it is more appropriate to spend the money on him, unless the questioner, his family, and his dependents are in greater need. This is supported by the hadith (definition) of Abu Hurairah: "Spend your wealth on yourself, then on your child, then on your servant." Spending on one's family, children, and parents is superior to spending on building a mosque, due to the saying of the Prophet, peace be upon him: "Begin with those whom you support."
