The answer

None of the Prophets wished for death except Yusuf (peace be upon him), and that was when blessings were complete upon him and his family was reunited. Al-Tabarani narrated from Ibn Abbas and Mujahid what confirms this. The majority view is that Yusuf did not wish for death, but rather wished for death upon Islam, i.e., "cause me to die a Muslim" when my appointed time comes. It is authentically narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he forbade wishing for death due to harm that has befallen a person. So how can it be said that Yusuf (peace be upon him) wished for death? It may have been permissible in his law, or at the time of the emergence of tribulations and the prevalence of religion, and the fear of its departure.
