Is the narration attributed to Al-Hasan Al-Basri, "There is no day whose dawn breaks but it calls out: O son of Adam, I am a new creation, and I am a witness to your deeds, so take provision from me, for when I pass, I will not return until the Day of Resurrection," authentic in its meaning and wording?

This saying is frequently mentioned in contemporary books about the importance of time, and they attribute it to Al-Hasan (definition). Abu Nu'aym narrated it in Hilyat al-Awliya' with the following wording attributed [to the Prophet]: "There is no day that comes upon the son of Adam but it calls out: 'O son of Adam, I am a new creation, and I am, regarding what you do, a witness against you tomorrow. So do good in me, that I may bear witness for you tomorrow, for if I pass, you will never see me again.'" The chain of narration for this hadith (definition) is weak. However, there is no doubt about the correctness of what the saying indicates: that one should benefit from the present day, and that if it passes, it will not return.
