To what extent is the hadith "May Allah curse a people who eat while above them are wind instruments" authentic?
The aforementioned has not been found in the books of and narrations. However, a similar hadith was found on the authority of Anas ibn Malik, may Allah be pleased with him, raised [to the Prophet]: "Men will spend the night consuming food and drink and playing musical instruments, and they will wake up on their couches, transformed into apes and pigs." This hadith was narrated by Ibn Abi Al-Dunya and he deemed it weak due to the presence of Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd ibn Aslam in its chain of transmission, who is very weak, in addition to the ambiguity of his two shaykhs. Nevertheless, the weakness of this hadith does not negate the existence of other authentic hadiths that generally prohibit musical instruments. Several hadiths have been authenticated in this regard, including what was narrated by Al-Bukhari.
