How old was the Noble Prophet when the revelation descended upon him?

The well-known opinion, agreed upon by scholars, is that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was forty years old when revelation descended upon him. The proof for this is what Imam Ahmad and the two Shaykhs (Al-Bukhari and Muslim) narrated from Ibn Abbas, who said: "Revelation descended upon the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, when he was forty years old."
