Is it permissible to draw Barbie dolls with incomplete mouths to avoid simulating reality, and to draw cartoon characters such as ducks and cats?

It is unanimously forbidden to draw animate beings that are complete in creation. This is supported by the hadith (definition): "Those who make these images will be punished on the Day of Resurrection." However, if it is ناقصة (incomplete) with a defect that makes life impossible without it, then it is not considered among the prohibited imagery, such as being headless or halved. This is indicated by the Prophet's ﷺ command to Aisha to cut up the garment that had images on it. As for the lack of a mouth alone, it is not considered an incompleteness without which life is impossible, so the drawing remains forbidden. As for cartoon images, some scholars permit them if they promote virtue and teach Islamic manners. The majority of scholars exclude from the prohibition of imaging what is made for children for the purpose of their education.
