Drawing animate beings is prohibited in principle, with exceptions for certain types, such as images with indistinct features, or drawing a part of an animal without which life cannot be sustained. However, drawing imaginary characters is not permissible, and the evidence for this is the of Aisha regarding the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, removing the curtain that had horses with wings. The advice for those who are attached to drawing is to engage in drawing inanimate objects, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever makes a picture, Allah will torment him until he breathes life into it, and he will never be able to breathe life into it."
