The answer

Praying upon the Prophet (peace be upon him) has great merit. Among its virtues is what Muslim narrated: "Whoever sends blessings upon me once, Allah will send blessings upon him ten times." The wording "O Allah, send blessings upon the Prophet" is sufficient and one will be rewarded for it, as An-Nawawi mentioned. However, it is better to limit oneself to the transmitted forms.
