Is it permissible, during ablution, to wipe the ears and the head with the same water?

Scholars have differed regarding wiping the ears: whether it should be with new water or with the remainder of the water used for the head. Malik, Al-Shafi'i, and Ahmad held the view of using new water, while Abu Hanifa held that they should be wiped with the head using the same water. Some cited the hadith (definition) of Abdullah ibn Zayd, stating that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, wiped his ears with water other than that used for his head, but this hadith has been deemed weak. Ibn Al-Qayyim stated that it has not been authentically established that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, took new water for his ears. To avoid dispute, one should wipe them with new water, though wiping them with the water used for the head is sufficient.
