The Ahmadiyya claim that the Prophet will speak about his demise using the same words that Jesus used, citing a Hadith which states that the Prophet will say: "Then I shall say as the righteous slave [Jesus] said: 'And I was a witness over them as long as I was among them; but when You took me up, You were the Observer over them,'" implying that the meaning of "demise" (tawaffi) is death for both of them. Is this correct?

The hadith (definition) of Ibn Abbas does not indicate the death of Jesus, peace be upon him, for two reasons:

1. The word "tuwuffiya" (توفيت) in the Arabic language means to seize and to take in full. Its meaning varies according to context. Thus, "wafat" (وفاة) can mean death, sleep, or the seizing and raising of the body and soul. The Qur'anic verses have indicated that the "wafat" of Jesus was by his being raised alive to Allah, not by his death, whereas the "wafat" of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, was an actual death.

2. The argumentation of some groups with this hadith contradicts the continuously transmitted (mutawatir) hadiths which affirm the descent of Jesus, peace be upon him, alive at the end of time to rule by the law of Islam, break the cross, and kill the swine. This aligns with the belief of Ahl al-Sunnah (definition) wa al-Jama'ah (the People of the Sunnah and the Community) that divine revelation does not contradict itself.
