Imam al-Nawawi, may Allah have mercy on him, mentioned in his commentary on Muslim that the qafiz is a well-known measure for the people of Iraq, holding eight makayil. The makkuk is one and a half sa', which is five kilajat. As for the mudy, it is a measure for the people of Sham, holding fifteen makakik.
