Divorcing a wife during menstruation or post-natal bleeding () is forbidden, but it is considered valid by most scholars, unless the husband was in a state of extreme anger that rendered him unaware of his actions, in which case the divorce does not occur. It is advisable to present such matters to a court or trusted scholars. The waiting period (') for divorce is three menstrual cycles for a menstruating woman, three months for a woman who has despaired of menstruating, and until delivery for a pregnant woman. The husband must control himself and avoid anger.
