What is the ruling on the prayer of one who prayed while menstruating out of embarrassment from her family? And does she owe expiation?
Source: FtawySummary from Ftawy's records · added here Sep 2, 2026
Menstruation is a natural phenomenon ordained by Allah for the daughters of Adam. Prayer during menstruation and postpartum bleeding () is forbidden by scholarly consensus. Whoever prays while menstruating has committed a grave sin and must repent and seek forgiveness. As for the prayer of the congregants behind an imam who is menstruating or in a state of ritual impurity (), it is valid, and the sin falls upon the imam alone.
