What is the ruling on the wife returning after being divorced three times, with the assistance of the mosque imam and Dar al-Fatwa, when she does not desire the husband except for the sake of the children and social appearances?

A wife is subject to an explicit or allusive divorce if she is still married to her husband, whether by him taking her back after a previous divorce before her iddah (definition) (waiting period) ends, or by her being in the iddah of a revocable divorce. If the divorce occurs after the marital bond has ceased, then it does not take effect. If he divorces her three times while she is still married to him, she becomes irrevocably separated from him, and she is not permissible for him again until she marries another man willingly and he divorces her after consummating the marriage. Contrary to what is relied upon by us is the occurrence of an innovative divorce (such as its occurrence during menstruation or during a period of purity in which the husband had intercourse with her). However, if a trustworthy scholar issues a fatwa (definition) to her that some innovative divorces do not take effect, then it is permissible for her to follow his opinion and return to her husband.
