The answer

Singing is of different types, some permissible and some forbidden. The wisdom behind forbidding the forbidden type is evident due to its effect on the heart and mind. Ibn Mas'ud, may Allah be pleased with him, said: "Singing causes hypocrisy to grow in the heart as water causes plants to grow, and remembrance of Allah causes faith to grow in the heart as water causes plants to grow." Whoever reflects on the state of those preoccupied with singing will observe their heedlessness towards acts of worship and their turning away from the Quran, which confirms the perfect wisdom behind its prohibition. A Muslim abides by Allah's command even if he does not know the wisdom behind it, so how much more so when he does know it.
