What is the ruling on a Muslim woman working as a tour guide, explaining information to tourists without sitting in gatherings where alcohol is consumed or taking profit from it?
The default is for a woman to stay in her home unless there is a need. She is permitted to go out for work if the Islamic legal controls are met. Among these controls are: that she is in need of work, that the work is suitable for her nature and in a female-only environment, that she adheres to the legal , that her work does not lead to travel without a or committing anything forbidden, and that it does not cause her to neglect her home. As for a woman working in tourist guiding, it is impermissible; due to the prohibitions involved, such as guiding to forbidden places, cooperating in sin, witnessing objectionable acts, and mixing with non-mahram men. It is advised to seek permissible work free from prohibitions.
