Are there still members of the Prophet’s Household (Ahl al-Bayt) in our current era? Is charity forbidden for them? Is it permissible for one of them to benefit from a free medical center established as an ongoing charity (Sadaqah Jariyah) for a deceased person?

The sadaqah (definition) (charity) that is forbidden for the Household of the Prophet (Ahl al-Bayt) by consensus is only the obligatory zakat (definition). As for voluntary sadaqah and waqf (endowment), there is a difference of opinion among scholars. The Hanafis, Malikis, and Shafi'is are of the view that it is not permissible for them to take from expiations for oaths (kaffarat al-yamin (definition)), zihar (a pre-Islamic form of divorce), killing, hunting penalties, ushr (tithe on agricultural produce), or the income from waqf, because these resemble zakat. However, Abu Yusuf from the Hanafis permitted them to take the income from waqf if the waqf was designated for them, and the Hanafis permitted giving to them from sadaqat al-waqf (charity from endowments) and voluntary sadaqah.
