The answer

"Charity is among the best of deeds, but it is not permissible to give away all of one's money in charity if it leads to the neglect of those whose maintenance is obligatory upon him, such as family and dependents, and the one giving charity has nothing to spend on them. This is because maintenance is obligatory, and charity is voluntary, and the obligatory takes precedence over the voluntary. However, it is permissible to do so if those whose maintenance is obligatory upon him are content with it.
