Is there a minimum or maximum limit for charities and good deeds, and is Zakat the minimum for wealth and one-third the maximum?
A person is allowed complete discretion over their wealth through gifts (hiba) and charity () without a specific limit, even if they donate all of it. However, they should not do so unless they are patient and content.
If one donates a specific amount of money, possessing no other wealth, the well-known ruling is that the entire amount must be given out. It has also been said that one-third suffices.
The minimum limit for charity is the obligatory . As for the maximum, during the lifetime of the donor, there is no limit. However, after death, in the case of a bequest (), it is not enforceable beyond one-third; anything exceeding that requires the consent of the heirs.
