The is the minimum amount of wealth on which becomes obligatory, and it varies depending on the type of wealth: - Crops and fruits: five awsuq (652 kg of wheat). The obligatory amount is one-tenth or half of it. - Gold: 20 dinars (85 grams). Silver: 200 dirhams (595 grams). The obligatory amount is one-quarter of one-tenth (2.5%). Paper money and trade goods are measured against these. - Sheep: 40 head. Cattle: 30 head. Camels: 5 head. Details of the obligatory amount can be found in no. 46927.
Zakat becomes obligatory on the two precious metals (gold and silver), trade goods, and livestock under three conditions: reaching the nisab, complete ownership, and the passing of a full lunar year (hawl). As for crops and fruits, the hawl is not a condition; rather, zakat is paid at the time of harvest, while observing the conditions of reaching the nisab and complete ownership.
