Is Zakat obligatory despite the uncertainty regarding future earnings and food due to the coronavirus?

Zakat (definition) becomes immediately obligatory once a Muslim possesses the nisab (definition) (minimum amount subject to zakat) and a hawl (lunar year) has passed over it. This applies even if the money is being saved for marriage or building a house, based on the Almighty's saying: "And give the zakat." The command, according to the majority of scholars, signifies immediacy. It is permissible to delay it only if there is no liquidity, or if the zakat payer is poor and in need of their zakat to the extent that paying it would disrupt their livelihood; in such a case, it is taken from them when they become solvent. Delaying it merely out of fear of the future is not permissible. In times of hardship, one should hasten to pay zakat, due to the goodness and blessings it contains.
