Is zakat obligatory on women's jewelry, and if so, what is its amount, and is it appraised at its purchase price or its selling price?

The jurists' opinions on Zakat (definition) for jewelry: The majority believe that Zakat is not obligatory on jewelry prepared for permissible personal use. This is the view of five Companions. However, the Hanafis and some contemporary scholars hold that Zakat is obligatory on jewelry in all cases, and this is the more cautious approach. The nisab (definition) (minimum threshold) for gold is approximately eighty-five grams, and Zakat is obligatory at a rate of a quarter of a tenth (2.5%) of the actual gold, or it can be given in cash equivalent to the value of the gold at the time Zakat is paid.
