The answer

must be paid immediately upon its due date, and it is not permissible to delay it without a valid excuse. Whoever delays it must repent to Allah and pay it immediately for all the past years, because of the evidence from the Qur’an and emphasizing the prompt payment of Zakat at its due time. Such a person should act according to their best judgment in estimating the wealth and the number of years if they are unsure, in accordance with the Almighty’s saying: "So fear Allah as much as you are able." It is sufficient for them to pay Zakat with the currently circulating currency, even if its value has decreased.
