Is it permissible to count the rental value of a house from Zakat money for a poor family living in it in besieged areas, knowing that it is impossible to reach them to pay the money?
Source: FtawySummary from Ftawy's records · added here Sep 2, 2026
It is not permissible to count housing provided to relatives as part of , by deducting from the zakat an amount equivalent to the market rent for the housing. Nor is it permissible to waive a debt in lieu of zakat. This is because zakat is a right due to Allah Almighty, and therefore it is not permissible to spend it for the benefit of the zakat payer or to settle his debt.
