What is the amount of zakat due on money in France, and is it obligatory on money not yet received from the employer?
If the wealth is in banknotes or commercial goods, its (threshold for obligation) is estimated by the nisab of gold (85 grams) or silver (595 grams). Zakat becomes obligatory on it, at a rate of a quarter of a tenth (2.5%), if it reaches the nisab and a full year (hawl) has passed on it.
As for the zakat on wealth held by others, the owner is obliged to pay it as if it were in their possession, provided that the custodian is able to return it and is not denying or procrastinating. This is conditional on the wealth reaching the nisab and a full year passing on it. However, if the custodian is in financial difficulty, or is procrastinating, or denying, then zakat is not obligatory until the owner takes possession of the wealth. Then, the owner pays zakat for one year if it meets the nisab.
