The answer

A father must be just among his children in giving gifts. The nature of justice is to give the male the equivalent of the share of two females. If the daughter is given gold and the male is given less money, and the remaining children, being adults, consent, then this is permissible. A distinction must be made between maintenance and gifts. Maintenance is according to a person's need and does not involve justice, because it varies according to age and needs. What is given according to need does not fall under gifts but is considered maintenance. However, if something exceeds the need or is very expensive, and it is not possible to give similar items to the rest of the children, then it should not be transferred to the son's ownership. Instead, it remains the father's property, and the son is allowed to use it.
