Is jesting about some dialects, or the difficulty of pronouncing some Arabic letters for non-native speakers, or customs, or rarely used Arabic words, considered forbidden jesting? And what is the ruling on discarding volumes or papers that contain Arabic text not including Quranic verses, or Hadiths, or names of Allah or His prophets? And must mere Arabic words and letters be respected?

The Arabic language is one of the شعائر (rituals/symbols) of Islam, and mocking it is an act of disbelief that expels one from the faith. Joking about the difficulty of pronouncing some non-Arabic words in Arabic is not forbidden, provided it is free from lying and harming Muslims. Everything written that contains something legally revered, such as the Qur'an and Hadith (definition), must be glorified. Scholars have differed on the ruling regarding the glorification of papers written solely in Arabic script. However, it is more prudent for a Muslim to respect these volumes and papers and not discard them.
